Newsletter – July 2024

Here’s July’s Western Driftless Newsletter!

The newsletter will probably take a hiatus in August – the editor thinks he should vacation with his family, and that’s ok.

The rains of June and July didn’t just wipe out beaver dams – they moved lots of sediment, and deepened channels. Our projects with lowered banks are gathering sediment in the flood plain areas – just as designed.

Stay tuned for news later in the summer about our fall meeting schedule.

MPCA Meeting on proposed Feedlot and Manure Permit Changes – July 24th, Chatfield:

From the Land Stewardship Project:

On Wednesday, July 24, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., the MPCA will host a public meeting about the proposed changes at the Chatfield Center for the Arts (405 Main St., Chatfield, MN 55923). This meeting is an opportunity to learn more about the new permits, raise important questions around what the permits do or don’t do, and consider how those questions can become effective and impactful official comments that are submitted to the MPCA.

Enjoy summer!
