Report on strategies to protect Lake Pepin tributaries open for public commentThe MPCA has opened a public comment period for a draft Mississippi River-Lake Pepin Tributaries Watershed WRAPS update report. This area includes six coldwater streams, five of which are designated trout streams, that flow into Lake Pepin.Findings include:Hay and Gilbert creeks were removed from the Impaired Waters List.Wells Creek was added to the Impaired Waters List and will receive federal grant funding to address pollution.Concerns about fecal pathogens, poor riparian vegetation cover, streambank erosion, and leaching from fertilizer and manure.Landowners are the key to restoration and protection of this watershed through voluntary implementation of best management practices on the landscape.Comments page

Join us on October 5 for a day-long behind the scenes tour of sites in the Metro and Southeastern portion of Minnesota where MNTU has completed habitat improvement projects. The tour will offer an interactive and engaging opportunity to learn how our projects are implemented from the process of landowner engagement through post construction maintenance. You’ll learn a bit about Minnesota’s Outdoor Heritage Fund which has enabled MNTU to complete habitat projects in dozens of locations around the state.
See firsthand how our habitat improvement projects have significantly enhanced trout populations and ecosystem health! Bonus happy hour at Summit Brewing following the tour to debrief the day and ask any follow up questions.
When: October 5th, Bus Departs at 8:00AM and returns by 5:00 PM. Optional happy hour at Summit Brewing Company to follow.
Where: We will meet at the Summit Brewing Company, 910 Montreal Circle, St. Paul, MN 55102. Please park next to the Ratskeller Taproom in the Training Room parking lot. Easily accessible by bus, train, or bike! We will be travelling together throughout the day by coach bus.
Who: MNTU staff and partners will be leading the tour. All are welcome, but this trip is most suitable for ages 12 and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
